How to avoid food excesses at the festive Easter meal?

After so many days of fasting, you can't wait to indulge in the Easter goodies: eggs, tripe, roast lamb, cozonac, Easter? Be careful with the culinary feast, though, because your body may protest. During the holidays, digestive problems are common due to the sudden transition from a light diet to one high in fat and sugar, often accompanied by alcohol consumption. Especially if you have been fasting, it is important to make the transition gradually with great attention to the amount and foods eaten to avoid gastric discomfort and indigestion. Here's what you can do to enjoy traditional Easter dishes without putting your health at risk.

Gradually introduce foods of animal origin into your diet

Gradually introduce foods of animal origin into the diet, opting for lighter dishes such as fresh cheese, yogurt, low-fat soups and broths, lean meat cooked in the oven, etc. Maintain a regular meal schedule to avoid overeating and watch portion sizes. Eat quietly and after a hearty lunch avoid snacks and opt for a lighter dinner. If you savor each bite, you'll notice that you eat less and more slowly, and you'll enjoy the flavor of each food.

Add fiber, vegetables and fruits to the menu

Replace the steak or roast beef with a salad rich in fresh or baked vegetables. Choose spring vegetables such as green onions, green garlic, radishes, lettuce, nettles, scallions, leurda and other available greens. Instead of focusing only on the slice of cake as dessert, try including fresh fruit as a snack. To avoid constipation and bloating, add whole grains, seeds and nuts to the menu, but be careful not to overdo it.

Drink water and teas that help digestion

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption that affects the liver and pancreas and choose water whenever you feel thirsty. You can consume wine or other alcoholic beverages in moderation, but always after a meal and make sure you hydrate properly throughout the day. If you don't like plain water, you can opt for green tea or mint and ginger teas. Avoid sugary juices that add a lot of calories.

Alcohol, only in moderation at the Easter table

Regardless of health status, the consumption of alcoholic beverages should be approached with caution. It is recommended not to mix drinks or consume alcohol without properly hydrating and eating beforehand. Thus, the alcohol will be absorbed adequately, avoiding the direct impact on the intestines or the liver, which are already overloaded by the abundance of proteins on the menu.

Exercise and enjoy with your loved ones

Easter is not just about lavish meals. Spend quality time with your loved ones, exercise outdoors, energize your body and soul, explore and fully experience emotions that will rejuvenate you and recharge your batteries.

The Easter meal is a special occasion when we enjoy the company of family and friends and the delicious dishes prepared with care. It is important to live these moments and take care of our health. Moderation and balance at meals as well as healthy food choices can help us feel good and avoid excesses that can affect our well-being.
